Gary Swanson is senior vice president of Global Quality Assurance and Control. He is responsible for all corporate and regional quality assurance teams as well as personnel at the testing laboratories and quality operations at Herbalife Nutrition. Those include the Innovation and Manufacturing (HIM) facilities in Lake Forest, California; Winston-Salem, North Carolina; and Suzhou, China. Swanson also oversees our Quality Center of Excellence at HIM in Torrance, California, Changsha, China and Bangalore, India.

Since joining the company in 2009, Swanson has grown and developed the Herbalife Nutrition Quality group from a few dozen employees to over 400 staff members. He helped diversify the group into various disciplines, including Analytical Method Development, Audit Compliance, Process Validation, Metrology, QMS, Botanical Science and Plant Genomics. These world-class teams support the company to ensure that our products are developed, manufactured and distributed to comply with both regulatory standards and our own strict standards.

Swanson has more than 40 years of experience in nutritional and pharmaceutical quality and operations roles. Prior to joining Herbalife Nutrition, he was a chemist for a Canadian manufacturer of nutritional and pharmaceutical softgels and eventually oversaw worldwide operations for Banner Pharmacaps. He worked to reduce manufacturing costs, develop new products and improve quality and manufacturing efficiencies. A substantial part of his career has been focused on designing new facilities and helping various companies to improve overall product and process quality. He managed operations, quality management and product development for Procter and Gamble, Glaxo, Elizabeth Arden, Whitehall Laboratories and Bristol Myers Squibb.

Swanson has a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and Biology from Laurentian University in Sudbury, Ontario. He also earned a Master of Science in Neurophysiology from the University of Guelph in Guelph, Ontario.
